Shrapnel

I walked past this building on Gower Street in London’s Bloomsbury several times before someone pointed out the dark squares it is peppered with. They are the result of repairs made after a bomb fell in the middle of the road during the Second World War, and the shrapnel damage was patched up matching the colour the stone was at the time. Years later, the building was cleaned, bringing the stone up to a bright white and leaving the repairs, so carefully done, showing through. I quite like that you can see them now.
